Self Guided Walks

The Tourist Information centre sells several publications which will enable you to explore the historic regions of the city at your own pace. You can also obtain help and advice from the staff if you are a wheelchair or Shopmobility scooter user to find a more suitable route round the Old Town Walls. Please email the Tourist Information Centre or telephone us on +44 (0)23 8083 3333 for details.

Titanic Trail

The trail takes you around some of the memorials and locations associated with Titanic. Browse through the many publications about Titanic on sale, and if you do not have time to visit all the sites during your visit, our staff can advise you which of the many fine memorials you can see during your tour. A self guided walk information sheet is available to purchase from the Tourist Information Centre.

This information can also be viewed in the Historic Old Town section under Itinerary idea's.

Jane Austen Trail

Launched in July 2006, the self-guided Jane Austen trail can be easily followed by using the new attractive leaflet. The trail takes you around places in Southampton's Old Medieval Town associated with Jane's time here between 1806 and 1809. Although some buildings no longer stand the leaflet, with its attractive drawings, evokes the town as Jane would have known it. Near Bargate, the magnificent north entrance to medieval Southampton was All Saints Church where Jane worshiped, the story of Southampton's Spa is recounted and the site of the house where she lived is visited.

The story of the Long Rooms and Hot Baths is recalled as is the Theatre Royal where she saw plays. The Water Gate is associated with the boat trip to Hythe and near the Platform is Queens park, once a meadow where skating took place. The Dolphin Hotel, where Jane attended dances, still stands in the High Street.

The self guided walk leaflet is available from the Tourist Information Centre.
