The Nuffield Theatre, situated on the University of Southampton's campus, is one of the South's leading producing theatres.

Over the last forty years The Nuffield has come to be recognised in England and abroad as a major force in British Theatre. Today, The Nuffield led by its Artistic Director,Patrick Sandford, creates award- winning productions that tour nationally and sometimes internationally. The theatre also plays host to the worlds best national and international touring companies and regularly attracts some of the country's most gifted and well- regarded actors.

The Nuffield has become a vital artistic resource for Southampton and the surrounding area, and invests in developing new artists and productions and provides a full and varied educational and participatory programme.

The Nuffield also runs a highly acclaimed writers'group for aspiring playwrights and is home to Hampshire Youth Theatre.

Road Directions

From M3 southbound, take M27 (east or west) then A33. At the roundabout carry straight on following signs for City Centre. Go under a footbridge and at roundabout take the first exit. At a major t/light junction with University to the left, turn left onto Burgess Road. Continue along Burgess Road and turn right into University Road and Nuffield Theatre is on the right.

Public Transport Directions

Unilink buses run from the interchange outside the theatre to:
U1 to Airport, Portswood, City Centre, Central Station & Town Quay.
U2 to Bassett.
U3 to General Hospital, Portswood, City Centre and Town Quay.

First Bus: Service 7 stops in Burgess Road ( 3 min walk )

Bluester: Bluestar 1 to Winchester from The Avenue/Burgess Road (10 mins walk)
Bluestar 2 to Eastleigh from Portswood Road/BurgessRoad (10 mins walk)

Fast trains between London and Bournemouth stop at Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central Station, then by taxi or Unilink bus service (see above)

Trains from Portsmouth stop at Southampton Central.

There is a local service between Romsey and Totton via Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh,calling at all stations.
